Art lovers often ask me why I don't paint certain subjects. I can only say that, aside from the occasional commission, I like to travel and paint my environment. Though it's always nice when someone buys one of my acrylic or oil paintings at an art show, I never think about the marketability of my paintings. Focused on my art, I think composition, light, shadow, contrast, struggle to get the perfect hue, depth and to use color in a way that catches the eye. My eye and anyone who views my art work. My goal as an acrylic and oil painting artist is to create a "wow" from the lips of the passer-by. Make them stop and want to look closer.
The great pleasure that painting brings me is to be able to travel, see something that inspires me and would like to share with others, take picture studies and make sketches, then be able to stand back and look at a painting I've made and impress myself. It is not ego I can assure you. I love that I have this ability, but I can't say it always flows from my finger tips easily. Quite the opposite. It is often a battle to the finish. Sometimes painting is frustrating even humbling, but I usually prevail and I don't give up until I think to myself "wow" I can't believe I made this. It's not that I have extraordinary talent. Everyone is born with something special and I feel blessed to have this. (continues below paintings)

I've sought out many artists to talk about their philosophy and art work process. Composition is paramount. Light against dark to create depth and contrast, how colors affect colors when set side by side. I am not a genius when it comes to acrylic and oil painting, but I think I know it when I see it and I can't help but to strive to achieve it. So when someone walks up to an acrylic painting or oil painting of mine and a "wow" does escape their lips, there is no better compliment - unless they are looking at the price tag!
If you think you don't have artistic or special talent and have a child, think of him or her as a blank canvas. Paint them with education and a wide brush full of love. What greater masterpiece could anyone create? I wish for everyone to find that one thing that gives them pleasure and makes them whole. After all, we only go around once in life ( unless you're a Buddhist ), so we might as well go around doing something we enjoy.
